The motivation for supporting Firefox is simple, to let MS Internet Explorer know that they must support W3C standards, or their product will continue to lose users.

Security - Microsofts security updates come but once a blue moon. When Firefox finds a hole in it's software, it's repaired within days.
Annoying Popups - Internet explorer allows popups go by, while Firefox blocks all unwanted popups and allows you to choose the ones you want.
Size - Internet Explorer is almost 20MB, so when trying to download the newest Internet Explorer it may seem like a choar with dialup. Firefox is just 4.7MB (Windows version) and is portable so you can take it anywhere!
